Headaches or Migraine

What puts the ache in a headache?

The ache in headaches does not come from your brain – your brain cannot feel pain. During brain surgery, a patient is often wide awake feeling nothing, even talking to the surgeons and nurses while his/her brain is being operated on (a local anesthetic numbs the scalp). So what puts the “ache” in a headache? It’s the non-brain structures; blood vessels, cranial nerves and membranes in the brain and skull. When these structures are stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed, headaches often result.

The Chiropractic Approach

Why do millions of headache sufferers turn to the natural, drug-free chiropractic approach to health?

That’s because chiropractic has a unique healing approach, chiropractors are the only doctors trained to analyze your spine (which controls the function of all organs, cells, tissues, and muscles in the body) for the vertebral subluxation complex (VSC) which can affect other areas of your body, tissues, muscles, cells, and organs.

When a VSC becomes more serious, and if the condition is ignored lead it can lead to damaged nerves, cause tissue inflammation, cause muscles to tighten and knot, weaken your body, cause fatigue and set the stage for early onset spinal damage. This condition is called the vertebral subluxation complex (VSC).

Similar to having a cavity in your tooth and being unaware of the decay it’s causing, so the VSC (or subluxation) may be causing serious harm to your body, sometimes for years without your knowledge.

What exactly is a VSC? It’s a little distortion or misalignment in your spine.

that stresses the nervous system, the system that controls your entire body. What causes VSC? Any emotional or physical stress that your body is incapable of withstanding can cause your spine to develop a VSC.

The Chiropractic Checkup

Synergy Wellness Chiropractic and Physical Therapy of New York city use motion palpation, touch, Xray, MRI, and a computerized surface EMG machine called the Insight Millenium Subluxation Station to determine if you have a VSC. If you have a VSC, your chiropractor will give you a safe, gentle spinal adjustment to correct the vertebral subluxation removing pressure off a nerve and correcting spinal distortions.

Why Does Chiropractic Work So Well?

Chiropractic has been a blessing to millions that suffer from headaches. There have been several studies documenting Chiropractics better outcomes compared to over the counter medication and other allopathic treatments.  There are three nerves at the top of the neck that carry pain signals to the head and brain via the trigeminal nerve. If you suffer from  VSC at the top of the neck region, your headaches will most likely get worse. For example; one study of 6,000 long-term headache sufferers (2-25 years) revealed that beck injury (whiplash, falls)was the most critical factor in the cause of a headache and should be suspected in every nonspecific headache case. Subluxation correction has powerful effects. In a controlled randomized study at the University of Odense, Denmark. Those under chiropractic care decreased their use of painkillers by 36% and the number of headache hours decreased by an outstanding 69%.

These studies are just a few examples of the many cases of headaches that respond well to Chiropractic care.

How Does Chiropractic Affect Headaches?

Chiropractors correct the cause of a patients health problems, rather than give more prescription drugs which only treat and mask your symptoms.
